Teaching English Through Skits

While teaching a new language it is useful to make them participate in skits.

A skit provides students the necessary support to begin production of a language. They learn to practice voice modulations, intonations and pauses in a meaningful context.

They have the option to modify skits, according to their interests and levels. For example, the same skit can be given to different groups for modifications. It would be interesting for the students (as well as the teacher, of course) to watch the different skits that emerge out of a common concept.

Students could be encouraged to write their own skits. This would provide them contextual practice in writing, reading, listening and speaking.

The best thing I have experienced as a teacher is the psychological boost a skit provides. Students and teachers experience a feeling of satisfaction, a great sense of achievement. The most important outcome is the increased confidence in the attempts made to use a new language creatively and with pleasure.
